Building Blocks and Timelines
A new body of paintings using oil and oil stick on panel, I explore how experience and environment work together to build foundations and act as place holders in the timeline of a life. Using blocks of color as a manner of processing the experience of and relationship with nature, landscape and each other, I explore the tensions in between; where the cracks form, where light comes in, where views shift. Influenced by the great color field artists such as Mark Rothko, Sean Scully , and Stanley Whitney, using variations on the grid form, these blocks work together to build a moment , a day, a life.
